Outdoor Learning

Hands-on farm-to-fork connection for school groups across Somerset, Bristol, and Wells. Focusing on nature, food systems, and sustainability, our Farm and Food Discovery Programme offers hands-on sessions where children gain practical skills and learn how to nurture the land and themselves using regenerative practices.

Children Gardening Together
The importance of helping children to understand where our food comes from can't be underestimated. Our sessions show children of age groups 7-12 how regenerative farming supports the environment and our wellbeing, and how to turn seasonal produce into simple, tasty meals.

School groups will follow engaging, hands-on sessions at Wedmore Village Farm that give children a basic understanding of how food and farming systems connect to our wellbeing, whilst building confidence, ownership, and practical skills in an outdoor learning environment. Sessions will involve land and tending, growing, vegetable and companion planting, and farm-to-fork cookery classes to turn the farm's fresh produce into tasty food.

The Farm and Food Discovery Programme Guiding Principles:

  • Invite and encourage a symbiotic relationship with the land
  • Season-led
  • Empower through experience-led learning
  • Facilitate a space for ownership and responsibility
  • Encourage a deeper understanding of the connection between our food, farming, and cooking/eating practices
